IGTC in action - Geneva, Switzerland

IGTC objectives are being advanced at several meetings in Geneva, Switzerland this week.  Discussions with key thought and decision leaders at the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), World Trade Organization (WTO) Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures, and the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF), as well as several high-level officials from national delegations, are identifying ways for the IGTC to work with and support efforts of common interest.  Providing for trade and investment in agri-bulk markets to advance food security in the context of geopolitical developments and a global, rules-based trading environment is central to the discussions and follow-up actions.

As a result, IGTC has further refined and expanded its efforts on several of its files, including:

  • To support the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) provision of the ePhyto Solution and implementation of least traded distortive phytosanitary measures as we prepare for IPPC CPM 17 next month at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome.
  • To accelerate the understanding and innovation of technology advancements that enhance the global movement of grains, oilseeds, pulses, and agri-bulks.
  • To advise IGTC networking and communication plans for 2023 including identifying new Global Grain Trade Roundtable opportunities and supporting IGTC’s Africa Grains Weeks in May.

IGTC is a non-profit federation of associations formed to serve the greater good by promoting and facilitating the performance of the supply chain for grains, oilseeds, pulses, and derived products.
