IGTC Global Grain Trade Round Table 7 September 2022

IGTC hosted a Global Grain Trade Round Table (GGTRT) featuring Mr. Tang-Kai Wang Chairperson of the WTO Committee for Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures and colleagues.

The work of the WTO SPS Committee is critical to meeting many of IGTC’s objectives. Key areas of common interest include Crop Protection Product Maximum Residue Limits, Phytosanitary Measures, Low-Level Presence, The Cartagena Biosafety Protocol, and Plant Breeding Innovation.

The objectives of this GGTRT included:

  1. Inform Grain trade stakeholders about the WTO SPS committee work program and priority areas.
  2. Expand understanding of the priority areas and work program for 2022/23 of the WTO SPS Committee.
  3. Elaborate on IGTC priority areas in international grain trade policy, particularly in areas within the scope of the WTO SPS Committee.
  4. Identify opportunities for the global grain trade community to strengthen the implementation of the WTO SPS Agreement and a global rules-based trading system.
  5. Strengthen relationships between the global grain trade and WTO Secretariat with new opportunities for partnerships in accordance with relevant protocols. The entire IGTC Global network of Members, Stakeholders, and Partners will be invited. The WTO is welcome to extend the invitation as it pleases.
