IGTC Submission: Draft ISPM on Commodity-based standards for phytosanitary measures

IGTC has submitted a response to the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) consultation on the "Draft ISPM on Commodity-based standards for phytosanitary measures". The consultation closed on September 30, 2021 and aims to garner feedback on a draft International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) specifically for commodities. It is hoped the ISPM will be approved in April 2022 at the next annual Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM).

The IGTC's response highlighted the need for evidence based approaches that are technically justified and within scope.

In addition, IGTC highlighted the importance of rules based trade, and the availability of the Coalition to provide grain trade expertise for IPPC, with understanding of the “practicality and feasibility” of measures as  referenced in the draft text.
