Update: IPPC Expert Working Group – ISPM for grain

The IGTC will be in Melbourne next week to support an international Expert Working Group in the drafting of a new International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) on grain. The new ISPM, under the authority of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), stands to have a significant impact on the grain trade. The initial drafting process will be led by an Expert Working Group of 7 countries, as well as invited industry representatives including the IGTC. The IGTC’s ISPM Policy Team, bringing together 21 grain trade experts from around the world, has been working to finalise priorities prior to the meeting. The IGTC will reiterate its call for trade-facilitative measures as laid out in its agreed policy document, as well as highlighting the importance of maintaining “Specification 60” as the principle basis for the drafting of the ISPM.
