An IGTC Notice to Trade (here) has been circulated to global grain trade colleagues and partners in response to the “international statement on agricultural applications of precision biotechnology”.

In its Notice to Trade, IGTC welcomes the emphasis from governments on transparency, regulation based on sound-science, and the avoidance of trade disruptions.

The international statement (here) was tabled by the Government of Argentina during the November 2018 SPS Committee at the World Trade Organization (WTO). So far 28 nations have expressed their support including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Jordan, Paraguay, Uruguay, USA, Vietnam, and the Secretariat of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

IGTC has also taken the opportunity to reiterate its policy document on plant breeding innovation, which is structured around three key pillars:

  1. Product safety
