On the occasion of the 11th Ministerial meeting (MC11) of the WTO in Buenos Aires, 17 countries have signed up to a joint statement highlighting the importance of farmer choice and access to "the full range of tools and technologies available for agricultural production". 

Originally proposed by the governments of Uganda, USA and Kenya, the statement points to regulatory barriers lacking "sufficient scientific justification" as a key factor limiting farmer ability to face the challenge of producing more food in a safer and sustainable way.
