Low Level Presence: Safety assessment workshop, Buenos Aires, Argentina

The IGTC was in Buenos Aires on 14-15 March alongside government representatives from 12 countries to attend the workshop on “Codex Plant Guideline Annex 3: Food Safety Assessment in situations of low level presence of Recombinant-DNA Plants in Food”. The IGTC took the stage twice at the event, giving presentations on “Implications of LLP in the global grain trade”, and “Regulatory Cooperation: Ensuring Safety While Enabling Innovation and Trade”. Industry insights were also provided by the Global Alliance for Ag Biotech Trade (GAABT).

The workshop was hosted by Canada as the Secretariat of the Global Low Level Presence Initiative (GLI), in collaboration with the Government of Argentina. One of the aims was to enable countries from around the world to share experiences on risk assessment processes and implementation of regulatory frameworks.

A report of the event is available for members of the IGTC LLP Policy Team and contains a personal commentary from key IGTC experts present at the meeting. Please contact the Secretariat for details of how to join the Policy Team.
